It shows a lock screen, disables Windows hot keys and mouse. You can lock your PC with a hotkey or from the system tray. To unlock the computer you must enter correct password only. Unlike another similar computer lock software that cannot lock Ctrl+Alt+Del on a computer running Windows XP, our Lock My PC runs own keyboard driver to block such key combinations.

We built new release of Lock My PC to implement old features better and add some new great features to the program.
Here the main features and benefits of Lock My PC software:
* Quick and safe computer lock by a hot key, or mouse click
* Windows 2000 and XP support (unlike our competitors we use keyboard driver to safely block Ctrl+Alt+Del and other key combinations)
* Administrative area for users and password management by supervisor
* Multi-user support
* Multimonitor support
* Autolock when computer is idle
* Auto turnoff when computer is locked for a long time
* Custom Lock Screens
* Screen saving effect
* Screen transparency - to use PC in presentation mode
* Optionally password protection for program settings
* Optionally locking for CD/DVD-ROM doors while computer is locked
* Command line options
* and many more

Download + Crack :
http://rapidshare.com/files/55155840/Lock.My.PC_v4.2.3.597_www.all2vn.com.rar

Super Utilities, update 7.69

- Disk Cleaner. When your Explorer does not find a disk this does not mean that the data has been lost. The data is OK most of the time, but a disk boot sector is damaged. In an automatic mode, Smart Partition Recovery will easily allow you to restore access to the lost drive. file system.

Besides, we suggest you to use the "Make boot image of the system" option to make a copy of the disk boot sector as a set of files; later you can use this copy in case of data loss. The saved files can be stored on a floppy disk, flash-drive or CD.

In a manual mode, we suggest to rewrite a disk boot sector with our file. This may be a pre-recorded copy or a copy of the boot sector of a similar disk with a comparable size and file system recorded on your PC or another computer.

Download + Crack : http://rapidshare.com/files/55843978/Smart.Partition.Recovery_2.1_www.all2vn.com.rar

Alcohol 120%, update 1.9.6.5429

Home users make backup copies of their game CDs and movie DVDs*, allowing the kids to treat multimedia disks roughly, without destroying their value.

Librarians and school administrators use Alcohol 120% to archive their institutions' collections of recordable media, protecting themselves against the daily wear and tear that damages discs.

Business users use Alcohol 120% to make duplicate backup copies of software titles, ensuring that they will continue to have access to their licensed software, even if their physical CDs become damaged and unusable.

With Alcohol 120%, you no longer have to worry about CDs or DVDs* getting lost, stolen, or damaged. System Cleaner operates by regularly scanning your hard drive for various error producing files and then optionally cleaning them from your system for you.

System Cleaner is a useful tool for drive cleaning and removing unnecessary and temporary files.

System Cleaner targets specific types of error producing files that common disk utilities, uninstall, defrag, disk-scanning, and sweep-type programs will miss. Commonly traders will consider buying or selling on crossover of the MACD lines. However, there can be problems and it is worth understanding when these may occur.

Let us take a look at the MACD plot on a weekly chart of USDJPY:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNlSesMbqI/AAAAAAAAACw/xh3hHl6SyHc/s320/MACD1.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112541370146123426" />

Broadly we would be pleased with the general signals being generated from MACD in this chart. While the crossover of the MACD across the signal line never really occur at market extremes, in this case they are pretty close and one cannot expect a lagging indicator to provide signals at price extremes.

It can be seen that before the moving averages cross the MACD is signaling a reversal earlier and allowing an early entry into a potential trade. Perfect. We can begin to trade on this indicator then… Or can we..?

Take a look at the second chart, still the weekly chart of USDJPY but from a year or two later:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNleusMbrI/AAAAAAAAAC4/a2DEllqRrSw/s320/MACD2.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112541580599520946" />

At first it looks quite good. MACD signals a sale into the large decline to the historic 79.70 low and a little later a reversal higher. There is lots of profit to be taken there. However, watch as the MACD peaks out soon after the initial rally from the 79.70 low. The two exponential moving averages continue to point higher and indeed do not cross lower until after the 147.65 peak. However, MACD spends around one year in a decline while price has continued to rally.

This is a recipe for losses.

Why is it that MACD can provide such a bad signal since it is based on two exponential moving averages?

The answer lies in the name: Moving Average Convergence and Divergence.

While the exponential moving averages are rising, the trend has slowed to the point that while only slightly the averages are converging – that is, moving closer together and this has caused the MACD to cross below the signal line.

Well, is there any way to control the trades to make sure that we do not make those trades? Indeed. One of the best tips I can offer is to remember the definition of a trend. An uptrend is where both highs and lows are moving higher. Thus, until the most recent low s broken there is no break/reversal of the trend.

Let us look at how this would have worked:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNlqusMbsI/AAAAAAAAADA/VqF5vr60RwM/s320/MACD3.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112541786757951170" />

As can be seen, I have drawn a horizontal line under each successive swing low. At no point is one of these broken until after the final high to the upper right of the chart. Thus, by combining information garnered from the price chart you can avoid many loss making trades.

Using Multiple Time Frames in Your Analysis

A technique to improve your trading decisions

Have you ever seen RSI overbought and wonder whether it was the right time to sell? Let’s face it, an overbought reading in a momentum oscillator can merely mean that price is strong and may even turn into an uptrend.

Is it a valid overbought signal? Do you sell? Where do you sell? Where should you place your stop?

Quite often using two charts of different time frames can help. For instance, let us suggest you have seen an overbought reading in the daily chart but there is no bearish divergence. What you can do is look at a shorter time frame chart, a 4-hour or 2-hour chart to see what is happening there an whether a more accurate sell signal can be identified. Let us look at recent example in EURUSD:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNj0usMbmI/AAAAAAAAACQ/fRX7VfEzOo4/s320/MultipleTimeFrameDaily.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112539759533387362" />

Above is the daily chart of EURUSD as it approached 1.3258. Daily Rapid RSI was showing an overbought reading but there was no bearish divergence. From this chart alone we probably couldn’t work out whether there was a selling opportunity or not.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNkEOsMbnI/AAAAAAAAACY/0PjEBN4R3f4/s320/MultipleTimeFrame2hour.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112540025821359730" />

This second image is the 2-hour chart of EURUSD but here it can be seen that the peak at 1.3258 was accompanied by a bearish divergence in Rapid RSI. We are therefore on warning that a reversal can occur and that the daily overbought reading may well be correct.

Next we have to identify a selling level and in this case it is on the break of the price support line which has touched price four times before it finally breaks and this is where we can place our sell-stop. The money management stop should ideally be placed above the 1.3258 high but if this is too high and would cause a large loss then we can look at placing a stop above the rising trend line. However, do note that is a rising trend line and could mean that your stop needs to be raised to allow a possible retest of the line.

In this case the trade would have been very profitable with a decline down close to the daily pivot support which rests around 1.3050. A take profit order can be placed just above this to exit the position at a tidy profit.

Utilizing a lower time frame chart to identify when Bollinger support/resistance will hold
Following on from the first description of using multiple time frame charts to both strengthen your analysis and enable tighter entry and exit trades, let us take another look at using these in a different example.

Many traders like to use Bollinger Bands to try and identify entry signals. The problem I have always had with them is that they only provide approximate support and resistance which causes problems in knowing where you should enter and where the stops should be placed. Not only that but sometimes they just don’t seem to work at all as a support/resistance tool and the judgment of when they’ll work appears purely subjective.

Take a look at the daily chart of GBPUSD:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNkVusMboI/AAAAAAAAACg/yzBdV3SjD6g/s320/MultipleTimeFrameBollingerDaily.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112540326469070466" />

In the center of the chart we can see that price has declined to the Bollinger low and on first touch it does bounce only to fall below the lower band and does so on three consecutive days. On the day before the absolute low Rapid RSI moves into the oversold extreme. Does this mean we can buy? Maybe. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

So what should we do?

The following chart is the 2 hour chart showing the approach to the low at 1.9400.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNkhOsMbpI/AAAAAAAAACo/_ATXmiqR7tE/s320/MultipleTimeFrameBollinger2-hour.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112540524037566098" />

On the left of the chart we can see that price falls below two identical lows and these can then be considered as pivot resistance. We then see the three pushes lower and on the daily chart we know that the Rapid RSI went into an oversold extreme.

Do we buy at that point because is looks like the Rapid RSI on the 2 hour chart is developing a bullish divergence? The answer is “no.” Divergences should only be traded on a break of a pattern. In this case we have an intermediate downtrend line and it is only after the final low that price breaks above the trend line and thus confirms the bullish divergence in Rapid RSI. You will also note that following the break above the trend resistance that price reverses briefly to retest the trend line which provides a second buying opportunity.

Following the break of the trend line which was the day after the daily oversold reading price rallies by 200 points. That’s a good profit… Not only that, by waiting and observing the 2-hour chart you can avoid trying to pick the bottom as suggested in the daily chart.

Remember, it is normally best not to try and pick tops and bottoms as these will often provide losing trades. Waiting patiently for the right signal by fine-tuning the entry on a shorter time frame chart can reduce losing trades and make the final trade a more profitable one.

Golden nuggets of forex trading

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_5S-VdmBWNJ0/RvNZ1usMblI/AAAAAAAAACI/drYCj5-E38A/s320/untitled.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112528781596978770" />
Bollinger bands are very useful in determining price direction. One school of thought is advocated by academic types, mostly economics, finance and mathematics professors. They will tell you that “markets are efficient” and that there is a zero chance for an individual to outperform any liquid financial market in the long run. Well, of course the guys with cushy university jobs, without any real world or business experience, will tell you that you don’t stand a chance to succeed. You should continue to work your little day job so that they have someone to make their sandwich or to change oil in their cars. People who subscribe to this theory usually choose to stay out of financial markets and keep their cash stashed in their mattresses.

Another school of thought is advocated by financial TV and radio stations, investment firms, brokerages etc… “Surprisingly” they are all trying to portray financial markets as an idyllic place where happy Moms, Dads and Grandpas use sophisticated software to place winning trades from their laptops while vacationing on sandy Caribbean beaches… Countless “talking heads” are enjoying their daily parade on TV channels such as CNBC or CNN supplying mostly worthless advice to general public. Their “analysts” change their opinion every day in a fashion that even George Orwell would find hard to comprehend. And everything they say always seems to “make sense” at the moment when they are saying it. Next day, when it turns out that they were totally wrong, they are telling you an entirely different story as if yesterday never happened. And if you noticed, the hosts never, ever bring that up. Why? Well, “the show must go on”. They have to show you that every day you are missing on countless trading opportunities; you just need to watch their shows, subscribe to fancy software that they sell you and you are on your way to early retirement.
I do agree with the statement that financial markets are efficient. They are very efficient in one thing - transferring money from bad and naive traders/investors to
the pockets of those that know what are they doing. You are now probably asking yourself “What am I doing in this field? Do I have any chance to succeed?” The answer is “Yes, you do.”. The system that we are about to reveal to you is a fail proof entry and exit strategy that will put you on equal level with big investment firms and with experienced professional traders

Earned value management (EVM)

Earned Value Management (EVM) is a project management technique that measures forward progress objectively. EVM has the unique ability to combine measurements of technical performance (i.e., accomplishment of planned work), schedule performance (i.e., behind/ahead of schedule), and cost performance (i.e., under/over budget) within a single integrated methodology. EVM provides an early warning of performance problems while there is time for corrective action. In addition, EVM improves the definition of project scope, prevents scope creep, communicates objective progress to stakeholders, and keeps the project team focused on achieving progress.

EVM emerged as a financial analysis specialty in United States Government programs in the 1960s, but it has since become a significant branch of project management. Project management research investigating the contribution of EVM to project success suggests a moderately strong positive relationship [1]. Implementations of EVM can be scaled to fit projects of all sizes and complexity

Essential features of any EVM implementation include (1) a project plan that identifies work to be accomplished, (2) a valuation of planned work, called planned value (PV), and (3) pre-defined “earning rules” (also called metrics) to quantify the accomplishment of work, called Earned Value (EV). EVM implementations for large or complex projects include many more features, such as indicators and forecasts of cost performance (over/under budget) and schedule performance (behind/ahead of schedule). The most basic requirement of an EVM system, however, is that it quantifies progress using PV and EV.

More detail see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earned_value_management

Some ideas on project management

Here are some ideas from our real life practice on project management, monitoring and tracking:

I. Estimation and scheduling projects tasks
1. Get experienced member to do the estimate
2. Assign suitable tasks to suitable members. Understand and manage people is the most difficult task of TL/PM.
3. Provide good estimated time and add more 10%-20% buffer. Discuss with members to finalize

II. Tracking and monitoring project tasks
Go get your member to find the answer for below questions:
1. What questions:
a. What is the plan for today?
b. What has been done today?
c. What are your problems? à Can be resolved by you
- Have the problems been fixed yet?
- How much time you need to fix them?
- Do you need any help from others?
d. What are your issues? à Out of your scope
- Have you escalated them to higher level management?
- Is there any time limit to resolve the issues?
2. When to track:
a. Daily: tasks at function level
b. Weekly: tasks at module level
c. Monthly: tasks at application level

III. Getting the real status of the tasks
Should work closely with team members to get real result number (percentage done) and map with schedule
TIP: Trust but Verify (like security concept)

How to verify the result of member?
1. Function level:
a. Review detail design to see if he/she implements follow the design
b. Review code: cross review between experienced members
c. In language design, we speak of the primary language entities as exhibiting first-class status. Think of an int: the movement in the 1970s to model abstract data types was an attempt to provide a mechanism so that user-defined types could approach the first-class status of primitive language types such as integer. So it is always legitimate to compare the first- and second class-citizens of a language. And if we do that with a generic and a template object under the .NET Framework, we could say that generics fly first class, and templates unfortunately are not only back in coach, but they're in the last row so they can't even recline.

The problem is that a template is local to the assembly within which it is built. This is because an assembly type is identified not simply by its name, but by its location. Thus, two objects of myTemplate<int> passed between assemblies in a method would be flagged as a type error. So templates cannot be part of the public interface of a type. In addition, they are not language-interoperable.

Generics are tightly integrated into .NET because the underlying intermediate language was extended to explicitly support them. In addition, the runtime automatically manages the instantiation of generics on demand as they are needed. That problem was never solved in C++ due to the nature of the native compilation model in which files are compiled separately and linked together only at run time.

More generally, .NET solves three programming-in-the-large problems that proved intractable in C++ due to the native compilation model: the initialization order of complex global objects (that is, the assurance that an object is constructed before its first use when the use and initialization are in separate files), the management of dynamic heap-allocated memory, and the on-demand instantiation of a parameterized type. These problems, each of which represents a language layer of complexity independent of the actual domain solution, disappear under .NET.

The issue of templates versus generics moves front and center in this column because TQL relies heavily on templates-in particular, on the STL. There are three primary problems to address, and they are all aggravating since this is work we would all prefer not to have to do.

First, my implementation uses the STL vector class. While the STL is not currently available under C++/CLI, the .NET Framework does provide an equivalent generic collection type: List<T>. Declaration-wise, then, I simply have to swap it in. However, I'll have to manually change the usage of each object since the two sets of operations are different. (Alternatively, I could think about writing my own one-to-one mapping of the vector class. I'll consider that later for the STL set associative container.) For example, here are a number of vector declarations:

typedef pair<short,short> location;
typedef vector<location> loc;
typedef vector<string> text;
typedef pair<text*,loc*> text_loc;

To replace vector by List, simply open up the namespace, change the type name, and add the tracking handle (^), since List is a reference class:

using namespace System::Collections::Generic;

typedef pair<short,short> location;
typedef List<location>^ loc;
typedef List<String^>^ text;
typedef pair<text,loc> text_loc;

Second, as you can see from the previous code sample, this implementation also uses the C++ Standard Library pair<> utility. It is not available with C++/CLI, so I'll have to do something there. It's a pretty simple implementation, so I'll just see if I can clone it. The thing is, nothing maps quite one-to-one between the native and managed platform. Again, that's not surprising, since you need to think of the managed platform as the best thinking on how to make the native platform more successful. (I think the only thing missing right now is equivalent performance.)

Finally, my implementation also uses the STL set class. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent generic collection type, so I'll have to do something. My first thought is to implement a one-to-one mapping of its interface-except I cannot hijack heap allocation under the .NET Framework. But, as you'll see, that turns out to be a less than good idea. Here's an example of the TQL use of set:

class Query {
public:
// ...

private:

set<short>* vec2set( const vector<location>* );
vector<location> loc;
set<short> *solution;
};

So let's see how to solve the issue with the C++ Standard Library pair<> utility. The pair<> utility is exceedingly trivial. Its value is not so much in the elegance of its design as the fact that it is standardized as part of the C++ Standard Library. However, it does exhibit some template magic that only partially migrates to the .NET Framework and generics. Figure 1 depicts what the ISO-C++ Standard shows us of pair<>'s implementation.

I'll maintain the unencapsulated public nature of pair<> by keeping it a struct. In addition, I'll define it as a value class since I want to minimize its overhead. And, as I indicated at the start of the column, I'll implement it as a generic. The skeleton declaration looks as follows:

generic <class T1, class T2>
value struct pair { ... };

This supports the previous use of pair<> , such as:

typedef List<String^>^ text;
typedef pair<text,loc> text_loc;

It also supports the sorts of uses illustrated in Figure 2.

So, let's look at the implementation, the easiest part of which is the data:

generic <class T1, class T2>
value struct pair
{
typedef T1 first_type;
typedef T2 second_type;

T1 first;
T2 second;

I was holding my breath to see whether the trait pattern carries over into generics. The typedef-ing of the type parameter to a type-transparent name is one of the more elegant template patterns. (I would suspect that you cannot do this in C#. If you can't, that is one neat advantage C++/CLI has over C#.) In this case, first_type and second_type can be used transparently, as I did in Figure 2:

pair< int, String^ >::first_type ft = psi.first;
pair< int, String^ >::second_type st = psi.second;

The next set of pair elements we need to deal with are the three constructors, and generics provides mixed results in this case.

According to the standard, the default constructor for pair zeroes out the pair of objects, T1 and T2. Value types cannot support a default constructor because the compiler cannot guarantee that it can always intervene to generate the appropriate invocation. In this case, however, that is more than fine since each value type is guaranteed to be zeroed out by the runtime prior to being handed over to you. So, for this one, the .NET Framework is the winner, so to speak. Removing code, in general, is always an improvement.

The two-argument constructor takes a T1 and a T2. This is largely the same within C++/CLI, except for two issues in the following declaration:

pair(const T1& t1, const T2& t2 );

The first issue is const, which the .NET Framework does not recognize. On the C++/CLI design team, one school of thought is if the framework doesn't recognize const and a function with a const argument is passed to the framework, then we can't guarantee const-ness and therefore mustn't support it. The counter argument, which initially prevailed, was that C++ programmers use const as an interface design toggle and we can guarantee this surface-that is, compile-time-behavior. And, it was claimed, this is very important to them.

The problem with the initial design choice is that it was justified by a supposition. It claimed to know what is most important to the hearts and minds of C++ programmers. That's a difficult conversation to navigate. After all, most of us can make plausible assertions about what C++ programmers want-naturally we won't agree but we all believe that we know what is right. Unfortunately, beliefs are what we get passionate about, and they typically gain importance over technical issues. In a sense, our implementation of templates was more a supposition than a technical decision.

The immutability of a value (that is, its const-ness) is not something we tend to argue about, however passionate our nature. As much as C++ programmers want their const, they want their const to remain const even more. That was just something the compiler cannot guarantee given the absence of const within the System namespace-except perhaps by disallowing all calls into that namespace that want to pass a const parameter. This was felt to be unsupportable. So we reversed ourselves and removed support for const.

The second issue in the two-constructor signature is the declaration of the parameterized type name as a reference:

const T2& t2

You have to do this in native programming because of the performance penalty of passing a large user-defined type by value to the function being invoked. Under the .NET Framework, this is not an issue. A value type should not be more than 16 bytes; reference types are all passed by reference. So the revised C++/CLI two-constructor signature looks like this:

pair( T1 t1, T2 t2 ): first( t1 ), second( t2 ){}.

I would characterize this two-argument constructor as a wash when viewed as moving from one platform to the other.

The third constructor is a template copy constructor (at least in the case where T1 equals U and T2 equals V):

template<class U, class V> pair(const pair<U, V> &p);

This is not supported under C++/CLI generics. Member function generics, in general, are supported, such as this:

generic <class T1, class T2>
value struct pair {
generic <class U, class V> void foo( U, V ); // ok
// ...
};

But my attempts to have a generic constructor member function result in a rather inscrutable error message, which left me unsure whether the message was a compiler error or an aspect of the common language runtime (CLR) specification:

error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'pair<T1,T2>'
error C2238: unexpected token(s) preceding ';'

The following shows the two additional syntaxes I tried:

generic <class T1, class T2>
value struct pair
{
// neither compile ...
generic <class U, class V> pair<U,V>( int );
generic <class U, class V> pair( pair<U, V>% );

// ok: but not quite equivalent
// note: not considered a copy constructor
pair( pair<Object^, Object^>% );

// ...
};

As it turns out, the CLR implementation does not support a generic constructor. (Unfortunately, a clearer error message probably won't make it into the next Visual Studio® release.) Therefore, in scoring this, I would give the point to templates. The entire pair implementation is shown in Figure 3.
[ Editor's Update - 3/14/2007: The code in Figure 3 will compile under Visual C++ 2005. However, due to the nature of generics, it shouldn't have, and a fix to the compiler was implemented as part of Visual C++ 2005 SP1 that will prevent this from compiling (SP1 is available for download). For a pair struct like the one implemented in Figure 3, there are several solutions. One is to use templates instead of generics (simply changing "generic" to "template" ). Another is to constrain the generic parameters to implement IComparable<T> methods on IComparable<T> can then be used within the struct definition to compare instances of the generic parameters.]

Finally, I have to deal with the set class abstraction provided by the STL. In the .NET Framework 2.0, there is not a set representation within the Generic collection namespace. I don't see any alternative except to cook up something of my own-which is unfortunate since presumably we'll all end up cooking our own slightly different implementation, and that makes for an awfully big set. Figure 4 shows the ISO-C++ specification of the public interface for set. On one level, I imagine people expect I would implement the full STL specification. That was what I first assumed until I looked at it closely.

Why, for example, would anyone want a reverse iterator for a set, let alone both a const and non-const instance of that? The functional abstraction of a set has little connection with, I would guess, 80 percent of its STL interface. That is, about 80 percent of the members of set are a requirement of the STL, not of the set abstraction. So that's pure STL overhead; there is nothing I really need in that. So I'm going to (virtually) toss it out. My set looks like this:

generic <typename element>
public ref class set : IEnumerable {
public:
set();

void add( element );
bool find( element );
void remove( element );

int count();
bool empty();
void clear();

virtual IEnumerator^ GetEnumerator()
};

And then, of course, I need to swap this set interface in place of the STL set of calls. This is the same problem as moving from vector to List. Space doesn't permit me to walk through any of the implementation details, but you can view that and the entire TQL .NET port in the download from the MSDN®Magazine Web site.

Download http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2...gC++2007_04.exe
Online code: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/code/?ur.../07/04/NettingC

(Stanley Lippman, Microsoft)

Service interacts with WinLogon desktop on Vista?

Found some interesting articles from Microsoft:

Interactive Services

Typically, services are console applications that are designed to run unattended without a graphical user interface (GUI). However, some services may require occasional interaction with a user. This page discusses the best ways to interact with the user from a service.

Important Services cannot directly interact with a user as of Windows Vista. Therefore, the techniques mentioned in the section titled Using an Interactive Service should not be used in new code.

Interacting with a User from a Service Indirectly

You can use the following techniques to interact with the user from a service on all supported versions of Windows:

* Display a dialog box in the user's session using the WTSSendMessage function.
* Create a separate hidden GUI application and use the CreateProcessAsUser function to run the application within the context of the interactive user. Design the GUI application to communicate with the service through some method of interprocess communication (IPC), for example, named pipes. The service communicates with the GUI application to tell it when to display the GUI. The application communicates the results of the user interaction back to the service so that the service can take the appropriate action. Note that IPC can expose your service interfaces over the network unless you use an appropriate access control list (ACL).

If this service runs on a multiuser system, add the application to the following key so that it is run in each session: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. If the application uses named pipes for IPC, the server can distinguish between multiple user processes by giving each pipe a unique name based on the session ID.

The following technique is also available for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000:

* Display a message box by calling the MessageBox function with MB_SERVICE_NOTIFICATION. This is recommended for displaying simple status messages. Do not call MessageBox during service initialization or from the HandlerEx routine, unless you call it from a separate thread, so that you return to the SCM in a timely manner.

Using an Interactive Service

By default, services use a noninteractive window station and cannot interact with the user. However, an interactive service can display a user interface and receive user input.

Caution Services running in an elevated security context, such as the LocalSystem account, should not create a window on the interactive desktop because any other application that is running on the interactive desktop can interact with this window. This exposes the service to any application that a logged-on user executes. Also, services that are running as LocalSystem should not access the interactive desktop by calling the OpenWindowStation or GetThreadDesktop function.

To create an interactive service, do the following when calling the CreateService function:

1. Specify NULL for the lpServiceStartName parameter to run the service in the context of the LocalSystem account.
2. Specify the SERVICE_INTERACTIVE_PROCESS flag.

To determine whether a service is running as an interactive service, call the GetProcessWindowStation function to retrieve a handle to the window station, and the GetUserObjectInformation function to test whether the window station has the WSF_VISIBLE attribute.

However, note that the following registry key contains a value, NoInteractiveServices, that controls the effect of SERVICE_INTERACTIVE_PROCESS:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows

The NoInteractiveServices value defaults to 0, which means that services with SERVICE_INTERACTIVE_PROCESS are allowed to run interactively. When NoInteractiveServices is set to a nonzero value, no service started thereafter is allowed to run interactively, regardless of whether it has SERVICE_INTERACTIVE_PROCESS.

Important All services run in Terminal Services session 0. Therefore, if an interactive service displays a user interface, it is visible only to the user who connected to session 0. Because there is no way to guarantee that the interactive user is connected to session 0, do not configure a service to run as an interactive service under Terminal Services or on a system that supports fast user switching (fast user switching is implemented using Terminal Services).

Impact of Session 0 Isolation on Services and Drivers in Windows Vista

March 17, 2006

Abstract
In Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 and earlier versions of Microsoft Windows®, all services run in Session 0 along with applications, which poses a security risk. Microsoft Windows Vista™ isolates services in Session 0 and runs applications in other sessions, so services are protected from attacks that originate in application code.
This paper describes changes to the way in which services are run in Windows Vista. It provides guidelines for developers to modify application services and driver services to run in Windows Vista.
Future versions of this preview information will be provided in the Windows Driver Kit (WDK).
The current version of this paper is maintained on the Web at:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/vista/
References and resources discussed here are listed at the end of this paper.

Introduction
In Microsoft® Windows® XP, Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003, and earlier versions of the Windows operating system, all services run in the same session as the first user who logs on to the console. This session is called Session 0. Running services and user applications together in Session 0 poses a security risk because services run at elevated privilege and therefore are targets for malicious agents who are looking for a way to elevate their own privilege level.
The Microsoft Windows Vista™ operating system mitigates this security risk by isolating services in Session 0 and making Session 0 noninteractive. In Windows Vista, only system processes and services run in Session 0. The first user logs on to Session 1, and subsequent users log on to subsequent sessions. This means that services never run in the same session as users’ applications and are therefore protected from attacks that originate in application code.
The following figures illustrate the changes. In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, sessions are assigned as follows:

(See attached file)
Figure 1. Sessions in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
Figure 1 illustrates what happens with three users logged on to the system. Session 0 contains both user applications and services. On a system that is running Windows Server 2003, Session 0 is the console session and Sessions 1 and 2 represent remote users. On a system that is running Windows XP with Fast User Switching (FUS) enabled, the first user to log on is assigned to Session 0 and Sessions 1 and 2 represent other users who have logged on to the local system.
In Windows Vista, sessions are assigned as follows:

(See attached file)
Figure 2. Sessions in Windows Vista
In Figure 2, again three users are logged on to the system. However, only services run in Session 0. The first user logs on to Session 1, and Sessions 2 and 3 represent subsequent users.
Because Session 0 is no longer a user session in Windows Vista, services that are running in Session 0 do not have access to the video driver in Windows Vista. This means that any attempt that a service makes to render graphics fails. In current builds of Windows Vista, querying the display resolution and color depth in Session 0 reports the correct results for the system up to a maximum of 1920x1200 at 32 bits per pixel (bpp).

Implications for Services and Service-Hosted Drivers
What Is Affected
Any applications or drivers that are installed as a service are affected by the following implications. Some drivers are loaded within operating system services or processes that are running in Session 0, and those drivers are also affected by the implications of the Session 0 changes. Specific examples of affected driver classes include:
• Printer drivers, which are loaded by the spooler service.
• All drivers that are authored with the User-Mode Driver Framework (UMDF) because these drivers are hosted by a process in Session 0.
Potential Issues
Any functionality in a service or a service-hosted driver that assumes the user is running in Session 0 does not work correctly in Windows Vista. Some examples of places where this assumption might occur are:
• A service attempts to create a user interface (UI), such as a dialog box, in Session 0. Because the user is not running in Session 0, he or she never sees the UI and therefore cannot provide the input that the service is looking for. The service appears to stop functioning because it is waiting for a user response that does not occur.
For example, if a device installer runs in Session 0 and the installation program creates a dialog box in Session 0 that requires user input to continue, the device installation never completes because the user does not see the dialog box. From the user’s perspective, the device installer is hung because it has stopped progressing and the user has no way to resume it.
• A service tries to use window message functions such as SendMessage and PostMessage to communicate with an application. This does not work because the application is running in a different session and therefore has a different message queue. The messages never arrive at their destination. The same is true for applications that try to communicate with services through window messages.
• Because services run in Session 0, named objects created or opened by services are usually in \BaseNamedObjects\. However, if a user application assumes that it is running in the same session as the service and synchronizes with the service by creating or opening objects with the Local\ prefix (or no prefix, which defaults to Local\), the application no longer works as expected. This is because the create or open request is specific to that session (due to the Local\ prefix) and the objects that the application creates or opens are in \Sessions\<n>\BaseNamedObjects instead of \BaseNamedObjects\. The correct way for user applications to synchronize with a service is to explicitly use the Global\ prefix when creating or opening objects in \BaseNamedObjects\.

These implications for services are also exposed through FUS in Windows XP because every user on a FUS-enabled machine runs in a different session. Services that assume that the user is running in Session 0 encounter the same issues when the second user logs on to a FUS-enabled machine. However, services that were not fixed to work with FUS encounter problems in Windows Vista even if only one user is logged on.

Guidelines for Services and Service-Hosted Drivers in Windows Vista
To work properly in Windows Vista, drivers that are hosted within a service should follow these guidelines:
• Use a client/server mechanism such as remote procedure call (RPC) or named pipes rather than window messages to communicate with applications.
• Implement any necessary user interface for the service as follows:
• Use the WTSSendMessage function to create a simple message box on the user’s desktop. This allows the service to give the user a notification and request a simple response.
• For more complex UI, use the CreateProcessAsUser function to create a process in the user’s session. The process can then display a user interface in the user’s session. The service should use a client/server mechanism such as RPC or named pipes to obtain any response from the user.
• Query display properties in the user’s session, not in Session 0, because the resolution and color depth that are reported in Session 0 are unlikely to reflect the actual display properties.
• Explicitly choose either the Local\ or Global\ namespace for any named objects, such as events or mapped memory, that the service makes available. If an object must be accessible to user applications, it must be created in the Global\ namespace to be accessible to other sessions. The following Microsoft Win32® functions all accept named objects: OpenEvent, OpenMutex, OpenSemaphore, OpenWaitableTimer, OpenJobObject, and OpenFileMapping. Care should be taken when using these functions to ensure that the named object is accessible within the current session.
• Test the driver in Windows Vista to ensure that it runs properly. If that is not possible, test the driver in Windows XP with FUS enabled and multiple users logged on. If the driver works correctly for second and subsequent logged-on users, it is not likely to be affected by the Session 0 changes in Windows Vista. The only issues that this test does not detect are those related to the absence of the video driver in Session 0 in Windows Vista.

Interactive Service Detection Service
The option of enabling the Interactive Service Detection Service will be available for customers who have legacy services that send user interaction dialog boxes to Session 0 instead of the corresponding user’s session. This workaround will be removed from the next version of Windows, at which time all applications and drivers must handle Session 0 isolation properly.
In beta 2, the service will be demand start by default and will start only when a visible dialog box that is not a command window is detected. If the service is started, then users will be notified when a dialog box or window (including a command window) appears in Session 0. Information about each of the last ten dialog boxes will appear in turn if more information is shown. This will help ensure that beta testers are aware of legacy services in their environment and have the opportunity to contact the vendors for updated services.
The service will detect these visible dialog boxes or windows and send a notification to the user. Users may choose to:
• Respond to the dialog box immediately by clicking a button to switch to Session 0, interact with the task dialog box, and then switch back to their session.
• Be reminded again in 5 minutes. They will continue to be reminded until the dialog box closes.

Sessions on the glass—at the physical system—will always receive notification as long as the feature is not disabled. For Windows Vista client SKUs, the remote desktop session will be notified when the user is remote instead of on the glass. In Microsoft Windows Server code named "Longhorn" SKUs, the remote administration sessions will be notified if in use. When a Microsoft Terminal Services application server role is on the system, then only the administrative sessions will be notified and regular user sessions will never be notified.
After Interactive Services Detection Service is disabled, then users will no longer receive notifications when the devices/services send dialog boxes to Session 0.

Resources
Platform SDK
Services
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....se/services.asp
Synchronization
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....hronization.asp
Making a Remote Procedure Call
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....cedure_call.asp
Client/Server Applications
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....pplications.asp
CreateProcessAsUser
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....ocessasuser.asp
Test Your Application with Fast User Switching
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....r_switching.asp
Windows Driver Kit
Associating Services, Driver Packages, and Applications
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....a57f4ce.xml.asp
INF AddService Directive
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....b11d8ed.xml.asp
